About Us

Sod quality and on-time deliveries are our top priorities!

Ludema Boyink Sod is well known with landscape professionals through-out Southwestern Michigan for our flexible scheduling and on-time deliveries.

Our sod is fertilized and sprayed for weeds as needed to make it thick, dark green and weed free. Regular mowing every 3-4 days is also very important; this is the most time consuming task of sod care.

Our 250 acre sod farm produces approximately 120 acres of the sod ready to cut each year. While the remaining acreage of sod is in its maturing stage or ready to be seeded. It takes about 9 months for the sod to be ready to be harvested.

We have three semi-tractors that can haul from 9,800 to 12,600 sq.ft. each, while at the same time carrying a hi-lo to unload the sod and spot it around the area to be sodded.

Our history at a glance

In 1945 Joe Ludema returned from World War II and started growing onions in the rich muck fields of Clarksville Michigan. In 1966 the first acres of sod were planted, and the sod was then harvested in 1967. The sod was cut using a Ryan Sod Cutter and lift truck.

In 1973 Larry Boyink married Patricia Ludema (Joe's daughter) and joined the sod farming operations. Today, Joe’s grandson Joe Boyink owns and manages the farm with is wife Tisha and their two children Leah and CJ. We currently harvest sod with a TREBRO Auto Stack II Sod Harvester, which not only cuts the sod, it also rolls and stacks it onto a pallet, saving lots of time and labor!

Ludema & Boyink Sod Farm supplies quality sod to landscapers, lawn care services, and homeowners in West Michigan, Lansing, Grand Rapids, Holland, and surrounding areas.

Our sod is fresh cut daily (weather permitting) to ensure maximum quality and vitality of the grass. We grow 100% Kentucky Blue Grass with certified weed-free seed in peat fields on our 250 acre farm in Clarksville, Michigan.
